London 2025
07.07.-11.07.25
In 2025, the GOST24 year group from the OSZ went on a class trip to London from July 6 to July 11.
This interview aims to highlight some of the experiences students had when interacting with local people in London — from everyday encounters to surprising conversations and impressions about British culture.
Interviewer: How was the trip to London?
Students: It was a pretty long ride, the climate changed from warm to freezing cold within seconds. Overall, it didn’t seem to be that bad, since when you talked or played games with friends the time went by quickly.
I: Sounds a bit exhausting but acceptable. What did you see in London?
S: We saw a lot of sights like the Big Ben, the London Eye, and China town.
I: Oh! Sounds like you saw a lot of interesting places. Did you take a lot of pictures?
S: Yes, we did. As keepsake of the memories. We took some pictures of the city and sights as well as of each other and together.
I: What kind of activities did you experience in London?
S: We visited the London Dungeon. The actors did a wonderful job, therefore it was pretty scary. Another thing we did was a boat tour on the Thames.
I: Did you experience any kind of sea sickness while on the boat trip?
S: Most of us didn’t, however a few did.
I: You spend each day, 24 hours for 5 days straight with your classmates. How did this affect you? Was it exhausting?
S: It was definitely interesting. We saw a lot of different sides of each other. It wasn’t exactly bad. We had a lot of fun, but honestly sometimes it was very tiring.
I: It’s calming to hear that overall everyone got along. Thank you for your time.

The London Trip 2025
As in the year before, teachers and students of the KW OSZ went ahead and took a 20 hour bus ride to London in company of 4 lovely teachers. The following interview sums up the impressions people from our year have gathered.
Question: How were the hostel rooms?
Answer: The rooms overall were fine. We had one simple kept bathroom and two to three bunk beds. Though if you were in a room with six people it felt a bit tiny with all the luggage.
Q: Was London clean compared to Berlin?
A: It depends where you went. The city districts also stayed in more of a healthy corner. To sum it up, London was cleaner than Berlin from what we saw.
Q: Which sights have you visited?
A: So we saw the London Eye, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace. We also did a cruise on the river Thames. Even though the London Dungeon was quite scary for some or most, we went there and learned more about the capitol’s history.
Question: What have you been eating during the day?
Answer: For breakfast, we could choose something that the hostel provided us with. So something like cereal or toast. During the rest of our day, we either went to restaurants or convenience stores. For example M&S. We could also use the hostel’s kitchen in case we are in the mood to cook something.
Question: Did the trip to London exhaust you?
Answer: While the ride was exhausting due to our lack of sleep, the days weren’t. After the group activity of the day we were free to go in groups of at least two. After our curfew, we then either hung out in our rooms or as a group with our teachers. The days have been filled with energy, motivation and a positive mood.
Student: Honestly, we first thought they might have prejudices against us or be annoyed by tourists, but actually, they were really open and friendly.
S: Yeah, I noticed that British people are super polite and well-mannered. Also, they really take care of their appearance.
S: Definitely. We actually felt quite welcomed by the locals — at least most of them. Some could even say a few words in German, especially in restaurants or shops.
S: Yes, there was one guy who randomly asked if Germany was going to start another war — a really weird question, but it stuck with me. Some people were just curious and asked crazy questions about Germany.
S: We met some people our age who tried to teach us British insults — and of course, we did the same with German ones. It was actually pretty funny.
S: Not really. We didn’t see many local teenagers outside, which surprised us a bit.
